SESLOC’s 2024 Shred Day events break nine years of records by serving 746 visitors and shredding nearly 42,000 pounds of paper! Thanks to our members who attended the events at our San Luis Obispo, Atascadero, Arroyo Grande, Paso Robles and Santa Maria branches, plus our new Lompoc event location. In total, we recycled 133 total bins with about 21 tons of shredded paper— saving 357 trees, 147,000 gallons of water, 63 cubic yards of landfill space, and 84,000 kilowatts of electricity!
This year’s success would not have been possible without our partner, Vital Records Control, a certified organization that adheres to stringent security practices and procedures. With their help, each year, we are able to assist members with shredding up to two legal boxes full of confidential documents— an $80 value free of charge*.
It may seem old-fashioned, but dumpster diving and mail theft are still common tactics for identity thieves because it’s so effective. They are hoping to find paper documents with your sensitive personal information, like financial statements, bills or paper checks. Shredding documents like these as soon you no longer need them is an easy way to ensure your information is securely destroyed and out of the hands of potential scammers. Plus, it helps with sustainability!
