Did you know? SESLOC was formed in 1942 with just $500 in assets. Because of the support from our members and community, we have grown to more than a billion in assets over the last 80 years. To honor this achievement, we’re giving $500 to 80 local nonprofits by the end of 2022 — funds may help support programs or simply offer lunch or a little treat for all of the hard-working staff and volunteers.
We’ve asked our incredible staff to nominate their favorite 501-(c)(3)-designated organizations. Here are the eight groups we’ve selected for May:
San Luis Obispo Symphony
The SLO Symphony supports the arts in our community. In addition to putting on performances, the Symphony provides music education and programs for our youth.
Good Samaritan Shelter
The Good Samaritan Shelter in Santa Maria supports the community with programs and support for those experiencing homelessness and substance abuse problems to help those in need escape homelessness and maintain independence. In addition, the organization works to combat human trafficking on the Central Coast.
Hearst Cancer Resource Center
The Hearst Cancer Resouce Center provides resources and education to those battling cancer as well as their families.
Hope’s Village of SLO
Hope’s Village of SLO provides resources and support for our unhoused neighbors in north county. Programs include building tiny cabins, connecting unhoused veterans with RVs, and providing supplies, food, and water to those in need when doing outreach on the streets.
Santa Maria California Women for Agriculture
California Women for Agriculture builds leadership in our community and supports the agricultural industry by advocating and participating in legislative activities, providing agricultural education, and supporting future leaders through scholarships for agriculture students.
SLO Museum of Art
The SLO Museum of Art supports the arts in our community through curated exhibitions and community events.
United Cerebral Palsy of San Luis Obispo County (UCP-SLO)
United Cerebral Palsy of San Luis Obispo County provides programs and opportunities for growth for our neighbors and family members with disabilities.
Wilshire Hospice
Wilshire Hospice in San Luis Obispo supports individuals and families with hospice care, home health care, mediation, and support for older adults like help with errands and transportation.
Please consider donating to these worthy organizations. You can check out the organizations we selected in April here, and stay tuned to learn about the next eight nonprofits nominated by our staff in honor of our 80th anniversary.
