SESLOC Spotlight highlights local organizations that make the Central Coast the best place to live.
Today we’re shining the spotlight on Habitat for Humanity San Luis Obispo County, an organization supporting affordable housing on the Central Coast. Michael Foote, Community Engagement Coordinator, explains how this nonprofit brings people and communities together to help those in need:

What’s your mission? Habitat for Humanity brings people together to build homes, communities, and hope.
What’s unique about Habitat for Humanity? Habitat SLO is unique in the variety of ways that we serve our community. To date, we have built 17 affordable homes on the central coast, with 9 new homes beginning construction in Paso Robles. In addition to building, Habitat SLO operates:
- A Home Preservation program that helps keep people in their homes through repair services such as painting, landscaping, weatherization’s, and other minor repairs,
- A Neighborhood Revitalization Initiative whose purpose is to revitalize and provide long-term change for destabilized neighborhoods
- And two ReStores that operate as non-profit home improvement stores and donation centers that sell new and gently used furniture, appliances, home accessories, building materials to the public at a fraction of the retail price.
What do you attribute to your success? It comes from keeping the best interest of the individuals, families, and communities we serve as our primary focus.
What advice would you give someone interested in giving back to the community? We have a variety of ways that both individuals and organizations can support our mission to build a world where everyone has a decent place to live.
