We recently held a holiday fundraiser in our branches and online in support of the Family Care Network. This local nonprofit supports children and youth in foster care, as well as families struggling with homelessness and unhealed trauma in San Luis Obispo and Northern Santa Barbara Counties this holiday season.
For five years, SESLOC has proudly sponsored EverFi’s Financial Scholars program, providing Central Coast high school students with practical, online financial education curriculum on topics like budgeting, credit, taxes, financing higher education, and more. Did you know that recycling one ton of paper saves 17 mature trees, 7,000 gallons of water, 3 cubic yards of landfill space, and 4,000 kilowatts of electricity? Thanks to members at this year’s SESLOC’s Shred Days at our SLO, Atascadero and Santa Maria branches, we recycled 113 total bins with 17.79 tons of shredded paper— saving 302 trees, 124,530 gallons of water, 53.37 cubic yards of landfill space, and 71,160 kilowatts of electricity!
For a fifth year in a row, SESLOC held a fundraiser for the SLO Food Bank and Food Bank of Santa Barbara County this past May. With the support from employees and members, SESLOC raised $12,061.89.
On Friday, May 24, over 120 student leaders participating in the Week of Welcome (WOW) program were enriched by a financial wellness workshop hosted by SESLOC at the California Polytechnic State University (Cal Poly) campus in San Luis Obispo. On Monday, May 20, SESLOC Credit Union hosted a hands-on, real-world living and budgeting simulation event for 70 students at Central Coast New Tech High School in Nipomo. For this event, SESLOC partnered with Bite of Reality, an app that presents real-life scenarios of maintaining a budget, to improve the financial health and wellness of the Central Coast.
